Harris Sliwoski Names Fred Rocafort and Jason Adelstone Partners
Harris Sliwoski has named Fred Rocafort and Jason Adelstone partners. Fred has played a central role in building the firm’s U.S. and international intellectual property and Latin America practices, while Jason has established its international cannabis practice. Both earned their promotions through exceptional legal work and sound judgment. Their election took effect on July 29, 2026.
“I have watched Fred and Jason build distinctive practices that have expanded what this firm can do,” said Managing Partner Vince Sliwoski. “They are lawyers I trust, colleagues I respect, and people I am proud to call partners.”
Fred Rocafort
“Fred and I work together almost every day, and I still learn from watching him work through a problem in three languages,” said Founding Partner Dan Harris. “Clients ranging from one-person e-commerce businesses to Fortune 100 companies trust him because he gives them practical advice and tells them the truth about their brands, even when it is not what they hoped to hear. I could not be happier to call him a partner.”
Before entering private practice, Fred was a U.S. diplomat, and that background still shapes his work. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Chinese, and deeply familiar with the business and legal cultures of the United States, Latin America, Greater China, and Southeast Asia, he communicates directly with clients, foreign counsel, suppliers, and business partners across jurisdictions.
Fred’s practice centers on protecting and enforcing brands in the United States and abroad, from clearing and registering trademarks to managing global portfolios and combating infringement and trademark squatting. He also advises clients on international manufacturing, supplier relationships, intellectual property licensing, and the commercial agreements needed to enter new markets.
He leads Harris Sliwoski’s Latin America practice, coordinating the firm’s work for companies entering Latin American markets and for Latin American companies doing business in the United States and elsewhere.
Fred earned his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School and is based in the firm’s Seattle office.
Jason Adelstone
“I have worked with Jason on domestic and international M&A transactions, and I have seen up close how good he is,” said Vince Sliwoski. “He understood before most people did that cannabis regulation was becoming a global business issue, and he built the practice to meet it.”
Jason works at the intersection of cannabis regulation, international drug treaties, and corporate transactions. He advises entrepreneurs, established companies, and investors on mergers and acquisitions, licensing, regulatory compliance, operational strategy, and other domestic and cross-border business matters. He also guides clients through European cannabis operations.
Jason writes and speaks frequently on U.S. and international cannabis law and policy. He is an adjunct professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he teaches Cannabis in the Global Economy. He also recently taught International Cannabis Law and Policy at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Jason earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law and is based in the firm’s Denver office.
Please join us in congratulating Fred and Jason. Both have already helped shape what Harris Sliwoski is. As partners, they will help shape where it goes.
