About Shannon

Shannon Brandao helps companies understand the European market and navigate regulatory hurdles. She is currently investigating opportunities for “nearshoring” in Europe as U.S. and European companies shift production closer to consumers and prioritize supply chain resilience and sustainability.

Based in Portugal, Shannon also assists individuals, particularly those from the United States and Latin America, with immigration matters, such as securing visas and citizenship, and purchasing real property there. Shannon works closely with legal experts across Europe and can also help individuals with cross-border wealth management issues, like asset protection and estate and inheritance tax planning.

Shannon is also internationally regarded as a China expert, and has worked on geopolitical and business issues across a wide range of industries in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. She is the founder of the China Boss newsfeed on LinkedIn, with over 25,000 followers, and the China Boss newsletter on Substack, where she shares news and analysis on China-related business and geopolitical developments. Shannon’s analysis has also appeared in Foreign Policy, Arabian Business News, Lexology, Banking Risk & Regulation (a Financial Times service), and Harris Sliwoski’s award-winning China Law Blog.

An International Business Expert

In addition to her expertise in international commercial and migration law, Shannon offers comprehensive regulatory and geopolitical risk analysis to global firms. She earned an LL.M. degree cum laude in European and International Business Law from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, where she studied WTO rules, European company and competition law, and financial regulation.

In her spare time, Shannon enjoys exploring Portugal with her husband, reading and sharing China news, and improving her Portuguese.
